Our winter concert will feature Angel Band by Tim Sharp and Timothy Michael Powell, featuring Appalachian, Moravian, and Celtic songs and carols.
This work grew out of a love for the tunes and texts coming out of the Appalachian Mountains and the shape-note and early Moravian singing tradition. In the words of Tim Sharp, We took the image of bands of angels singing and playing at the Nativity as reported in the second chapter of Luke's gospel, transported that image to Appalachia, and “Angel Band” is the result.
The concert also includes Sing, Choirs of Angels, familiar carols arranged by Victor C. Johnson, several carols from 100 Carols for Choirs, edited and arranged by David Willcocks and John Rutter, as well as selections from An A Cappella Christmas, a collection of Christmas favorites arranged by Kirby Shaw.
