The Virginia Choral Society

Music Scholarships/Scholarship Fund

2011-2012

Scholarship Application Form (Due January 11, 2012)

Background:  As a foundational building block of the Virginia Choral Society, we are committed to providing fine choral music for our community.  Supporting that objective, we also believe that arts and music education are logical components of our corporate mission.  Therefore, and aside from our operational needs, we have established a VCS Music Scholarship Fund to recognize talented young vocal musicians in our community with a scholarship award.

Fundraising: In order to provide funds for the VCS Music Education Scholarship Fund, VCS will designate fund-raising activities/events that are single-purpose for this fund.  For this concert year, 2011-2012, we designated our Fall Fashion Show (October 22, 2011) as the major fund-raiser for this fund. 100% of the proceeds from this show are committed to the VCS Music Scholarship Fund.  Warwick Forest will again host this event.  October 22, 2011 was the date  for the Fall Fashion Show.  VCS thanks everyone for their support for this worthy project.

Nominations:  VCS will advertise and call for candidates to be nominated for this scholarship.  Details as to the format of the nomination application, the event schedule and actual award are provided in this link "Application".  Deadline for application submission is Wednesday, January 11, 2012.

VCS Music Scholarship Committee.  Our VCS Music Scholarship Committee will manage the “call for nominations”, the evaluation criteria and selection of the young musician.  Our Artistic Director and the VCS Chorus President will be key members of the Committee.  Additionally, members from our VCS Chorus and Board of Director will add to the composition of the Scholarship Committee as needed.

Awards:  The number and amount of each award will be determined by the funds in the scholarship fund (from fundraisers, donations, and grants) and the number of nominees.  Our minimum award will be for $500.00 per scholarship.  For this concert year, 2010-2011, VCS will award one $1,000.00 scholarship.  Additionally, the successful young musician will be offered an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities at our final concerts of the year in April/May 2011.

Prior Scholarship Awards:

  • In April 2010, VCS awarded the first VCS Music Scholarship Award to Ms. Janie Darone, a graduating senior from Tabb High School.
  • In April 2011, VCS award the second VCS Music Scholarhip Award to Ms. Kelsey Nunn, a graduating senior from York High School.
